Mexico 1–0 South Korea · Romo sends El Tri through in Guadalajara — World Cup 2026
No fireworks, but everything Mexico needed: a narrow win, top spot secured, and the first knockout ticket of the tournament.
After a tight first half, the breakthrough came in the 50th minute. Kim Seung-gyu collided with his own defender and spilled the ball, leaving Luis Romo to finish into an empty net. South Korea controlled possession and pushed late, but Raul Rangel preserved the lead with a crucial double save in the 87th minute.
Romo scored the goal, but Rangel protected the result. The Chivas goalkeeper kept a second straight World Cup clean sheet on home club soil in Guadalajara.
Mexico has six points and is guaranteed to finish first in Group A. South Korea still controls its route to second place.
El Tri did not sparkle, but it was composed, ruthless, and first into the knockout rounds.
